An interesting observation is that all ISFJs have actually followed directions to my questions in ways I wanted them to answer. (Though, I realize now it is my mistake in not clarifying how my participants should have answered my questions, and only my Si dom participants understood what I was asking for specifically.)Most of these participants are friends with INTPs, INFJs, and INFPs. Most of their closest companions and their 3rd top theoretically compatible choice are INFPs.

ISFJ's Opinions on The Theory

The ISFJs seem to think that the accuracy of this compatible pairing is neither accurate nor inaccurate with leaning towards inaccurate compared to accurate. One of the individuals who rated the theory 4 out of 5 for accuracy has befriended a lot of people of their golden pairing, but has never had the chance to meet and befriend their silver and bronze pairings. Another individual who rated the theory's accuracy as the same believes that it works like this since it’s just “how dynamics works from time to time”. The last person states they’re surrounded by these pairings without making an effort.

An ISFJ who thinks that the theory is neither accurate nor inaccurate reports that both parties’ balancing each other’s weaknesses/strengths can be complicated, since some relationships will use each other’s differences to balance each other, while others will use them to create conflict. Some of these participants believe that there is more to MBTI and that it also depends on other factors, such as attachment style, how mentally healthy someone is, and what works for each individual. One individual states that while they may be attracted to some of their pairings, they never had the chance to meet them and married an MBTI type outside of these theoretical pairings. The last individual states that ESxPs overwhelm and oversimulate them, hence not being drawn to them, but are drawn to ENTPs due to the shared cognitive functions, where their Ne dom function feels natural to converse with.

One individual who believes the theory to be somewhat inaccurate believes that it takes a very particular person with a specific mindset, maturity, healthiness, and communication skills to be prepared in order to be in these pairings that promote growth on both parties. If two unhealthy people are in a relationship, then it would be a disaster. Another person states that MBTI is a guideline on how a person functions and that there is no guarantee that a couple would work out just because it falls under these 3 best pairing theories. They believe that other factors, such as chemistry, habits overlapping, and traits clashing, would make or break a relationship. They personally avoid ESFPs due to their anxiety and introversion, hence not being able to meet many of them. One ISFJ believes that these theories would work for people when they are young, but as they get older, personality type has very little to make or break a relationship, and other factors, such as communication and emotional intelligence, matter in a relationship. Another ISFJ finds that ExxPs are too much for them, hence the theory being very inaccurate for them. The last ISFJ uses socionics and DCNH concepts to determine your best MBTI match instead of MBTI.

Who do the ISFJs think they are compatible with?

One ISFJ chose ENFP as their best match because it’s the easiest MBTI type for them to get along with due to how straightforward they are with planning and making those plans a reality. Another ISFJ chose ISFJs and INFJs because they prefer introversion, planning, low spontaneity, and having a Fe aux is important for them. They could also be with IxTJs, too, for growth if they were introspective. Someone states that ISTPs, INTPs, and INFPs are their top match because they felt the most chemistry with these types and had similar humor, same interests, understand the need for space due to being introverts, and complement each other well. Another person chose ENTP, ENFJ, INFP, and INFJ because they had Ni-Si or Fe-Ti stackings in their functions; these types are the easiest for this individual to open up to. A different participant decided with ENFP, INFP, INFJ, and ISFJ because they are willing to listen to those who are talkative, as a quiet introvert, or get along with other introverts with the same interests.

One individual chose ESTJ since they would prefer to have an extrovert who thinks logically and can handle their emotional side. Someone chose ISFJ only since they have the same functions as them, which makes communication easier. Another person went with ENFP, ENFJ, ESFJ, ESFP, and INFJ due to the fact that they get along with fellow Fe users and like the funness of ExFPs. Two ISFJs chose INFJ due to mutual nurturing and similarities, yet their differences would allow for growth, and social energies also match. One person chose an INTP while another chose INTP and ISFJ, since these types share the same introverted cognitive functions as them, which makes them understand each other while promoting growth. An individual made their choice of ENFP, INTP, INFP, and INFJ since they’re similar to them but also able to cheer them up and understand them. The last ISFJ chose ENFP, ESFP, INFP, and INFJ because they can understand them and return the same treatment that they give to them.

Thoughts on Sensor vs Intuitive?

All 15 ISFJ participants believed that sensors and intuitives can get along with each other. Some people believe that MBTI should not matter in determining whether two parties can coexist or not, and that there is more to MBTI in determining whether two people can get along or not. Others believe that they can complement each other greatly since everyone has a sensing and intuitive function in their cognitive function stacks. An example is that an ISFJ and an INFP can balance each other out with the ISFJ’s dominant Si and auxiliary Fe helping the INFP stay grounded and practical, and the INFP’s dominant Fi and auxiliary Ne helping the ISFJ think deeper and set better boundaries. A few also believe that maturity and communication skills are important in determining whether the two folks in a relationship can make or break. One even says that on Reddit, people tend to believe that Intuitives are superior to Sensors, and “this dichotomy transcends all the other traits. It’s all about exchanging ideas once you’re sitting side by side.” Sensors can be nostalgic, and intuitives can be abstract, which may help each other by an intuitive challenging the sensor to think about the future and present instead of the past, and for a sensor to help challenge an intuitive by thinking about the past and present instead of the future.
